1. Know Your Audience

If you know who you’re sending emails to, it’s easier to earn donations.

Having audience insights on your email list helps to identify key demographic information about what type of person engages with your content the most, so you can focus on the people who actually open your email and click on your links.

Keeping track of engagement data will help you deliver relevant content to your audience. By sending specific messages to members of your audience who consistently interact with your content, you can keep them engaged with content they want to see and this maintains engagement. 78% of internet users in the U.S. said personally relevant content increases their donation likelihood.

Remember, an engaged audience is better than a huge audience. But having both is even better.

2. Grow Your Audience (The Right Way)

If you aren’t a professional in the advertising/marketing industry, this is where things can get challenging. So we’ll keep this part brief.

Target Existing Donors by using your list to run both targeted email campaigns and fundraising ads to go with them. Audience

Repurpose Your Email: Every email that is sent is repurposed for social media and paid ads to drive engagement, fundraising, and email acquisition. This allows for a streamlined message and enables multiple touch points with each potential donor across various platforms.

3. Get to the Point

People don’t have time and people don’t have attention spans. Make your emails simple, concise, and to the point.

Why should I open this email?

Why should I read this email?

Why should I click on this link?

Why should I donate?

4. It’s a Relationship

Business is mostly about relationships, and nonprofits are no exception.

Treat others with respect, they’ll respect you.

Help others, they’ll help you.

Be useful to others, they’ll like you.

5. Quality > Quantity

It’s better to have 100 people who want to hear from you than 1000 people who don’t even know what you’re doing. Why would you email people who don’t want you in their inbox and risk going to spam? Stick to people who like you and you’ll be rewarded.

6. Test Everything

Big rule in advertising: If you don’t stop testing, your advertising won’t stop improving.
